Welcome to the FRESH New London website! It's currently under construction, and since it's Laura herself doing the constructing, this might take a while. (A note: if anyone out there has web-building skills that they'd like to donate, please contact us!!)

New Initiatives

FRESH is proud to announce a new collaborative project to begin in the spring of 2007. The project, an urban garden and community center, will be created on an old tennis court on the corner of Mercer and Williams streets in the center of New London. The site is located directly across the street from Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, and across the street from the still-in-construction Jennings School. Collaborators include the Public Schools, the Senior Center, the Post Hill and Freedom Trail Neighborhood Associations, and many more.

The urban garden and community center will be the heart and headquarters of FRESH’s work in New London. The site will provide space for community gardens, and opportunities for children and residents to learn skills of organic vegetable gardening, as well as an outdoor classroom, and an on-site composting project. In the summer, FRESH youth will cook and serve weekly free lunchtime meals at the site, open to everyone. In addition, we’ll show movies and hold other educational and social events.

Please contact FRESH to get involved! We’re looking for people interested in having a small plot at the site to garden as their own, as well as anyone interested in learning how to grow their own food.

Think FRESH, Buy Local

FRESH received a grant from the CT State Dept of Agriculture to create markets in New London County for the sale of locally-grown produce. We are working with many local and regional groups to launch this campaign.
