FRESH MarketThe FRESH Market

The FRESH Market is our dynamic and innovative program connecting youth development, neighbors and urban eaters with farms, and emphasizes universal access to safe, healthy local food.

The prices of the Market are mission-driven; in an effort to have our organic veggies affordable for all, we set our prices about 50% less than large supermarkets. The FRESH Market also accepts WIC & Senior Farmers’ Market Vouchers and EBT cards at our Market Stops and Farm Stand. As the Market grows, we will seek to carry the produce of other local farms in order to connect them to New London customers and to widen the selection of fresh seasonal produce that we can offer.

The Mission of the FRESH Market is to increase access to healthy food and healthy choices, with an emphasis on reaching those least served by the current food system and to bring people together through food – creating power, sharing knowledge and breaking down barriers between people.

There are currently 4 ways to access the Programs of the FRESH Market: the Mobile Market with regularly scheduled Stops throughout New London, Weekly Pre-Order Baskets (coordinated through community partners) , the Farm Stand @ the FRESH Community Garden (at the corner of Williams and Mercer), and at participating corner stores within the city of New London. If you are interested in learning more about any of these Programs, please contact us at freshnewlondon@hotmail.com or (860) 444 – 8050 ext.14.

Mobile Market Stops: Two days a week, FRESH drives to different locations throughout New London, to make direct sales to customers. We visit neighborhoods with limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We are able to accept EBT cards at all our Market Stops.

Corner Stores/Bodegas: FRESH is working with some New London Retail Stores to bring our produce to neighborhoods. Look out for information about which ones will be participating in 2010! Ask your local store owner to contact us if they are interested in learning more about this program.

Pre-Order Partnerships: In an effort to get our produce to more people, FRESH has partnered with local agencies in our Pre-Order Partnership Program. Our Partners promote the weekly $5 bags of pre-packaged veggies (a value of $10-15) to their constituents. Partners take orders, collect money and provide an appropriate location for customer pick-up of their bags. FRESH harvests and packages the vegetables and fills weekly orders for the bags, and delivers them to designated pick-up locations.
