This almost acre parcel is steeply terraced and was thickly overgrown when acquired by a local couple. They approached FRESH New London and invited us to envision the stretch of land as an urban farm. We planted squash and watermelon in 2019 which we will distribute at the CSA. Farmer Sean O’Brien and other adults tend this property because of the difficulty accessing the upper stretches. We have a formal agreement with the owners and plan to continue developing this property as a site of larger scale agriculture than we can do in boxes and small spaces.
At the end of 2019 growing season, we cleared rocks and glass out of the site and planted winter rye, radishes and peas to put new nutrients into the soil. This parcel will continue to change and develop over the coming years!
